Department of Agriculture Community and Natural Resources (ACNR)

General Description:

The Horticulture Special Project Assistant assists the horticulture researcher in conducting and maintaining horticulture research projects.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
-----
• Will be responsible for collecting and analyzing field data on horticulture research projects under the supervision of the horticulture researcher.
• Assist with field preparation, planting, harvesting, pest control and weed management.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
-----
• Associates Degree (or equivalent) in agriculture, horticulture, tropical plant and soil sciences, biology, environmental sciences or a related filed.
• Must have valid American Samoa Driver’s license. Must be able to communicate in English and Samoan. Must have a basic understanding of experimental design in agriculture. Must be able to work with minimum supervision. Must be able and willing to perform moderately strenuous outdoor labor. Must be able to safely operate rototiller, weed eater, backpack sprayer, hedge trimmer, pick, hoe, shovel, bush knife and other tools required for plant propagation and planting. Must understand and follow farm safety practices (chemical, physical, biological). Must be able to use Microsoft Excel.

Salary will be commensurate with degree and experience.
